How do I set up a new e-mail address?

Send an e-mail request to webmaster@unionwebdesign.com and indicate the new username and password. Remember, the number of e-mail addresses for your Web site is based on the hosting plan you've selected. You can exceed the number of allotted e-mail addresses for a nominal charge of $2/month per additional e-mail address.

What can you tell me about the visitors to my Web site?

Click the counter on the bottom of your home page to learn more about the visitors to your Web site. Site Meter provides information such as your visitor's domain (for example, AOL.com), the time they visited, how long they spent at your site the site, what time zone they are from, etc.

How can I improve the number of "hits"?

Your choice of keywords is critical because they can bring motivated traffic to your site through specifically optimized pages. Users type keywords into a search engine query box to act on their needs, so careful selection of the right keywords can attract the kind of traffic that results in good conversion rates. As a service to you, Union Web Design determines these keywords based on our experience in search engine placement strategies. You are welcome to send us suggestions for key words.

It's important that keywords are used throughout the site. You must repeat them sufficiently to achieve the right sort of "keyword density" without repeating them so excessively that your site is perceived as "spamming". This is where you can help us. It's important that you mention your organizational name and the type of work you do throughout the Web site, especially on the Home page.

How do I send the updates to my Web site?

Updates to your Web site must be sent electronically. To submit updates for your Web site, complete a form at www.unionwebdesign.com/request or send an e-mail to webmaster@unionwebdesign.com. If you choose to e-mail an attachment, please send the updates in one of the following formats: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Works, Microsoft Word for the Macintosh (.mcw), WordPerfect, ASCII text (.txt), rich text format (.rtf), or PDF. In the Save As Type drop-down box choose one of the formats listed above.

What is the best format to send images?

File Format: Two formats for graphics are primarily used in Web publications: GIF and JPEG. The best rule of thumb is to use the GIF file format for Web graphics that are composed of less that 256 colors and contain large areas of uniform color (such as logos, cartoons, simple art work, line art, graphs, and charts). Use the JPEG file format for Web graphics that are composed of textures and gradations of many colors and hues (such as photographs and 3-dimensional and beveled objects).

Dimensions: As far as the image dimensions, remember that smaller images load faster. The faster the site loads, the better chance of keeping your visitors interest. The smallest monitors are 640x480 pixels. Therefore, an image 400 pixels tall will nearly fill up their entire screen. An image 320 pixels wide will fill half the screen. Keep this in mind when you determine your image size. If you are unsure, please send us a larger size. We can make your image smaller, but we can't make it larger without substantially losing quality.

How can I add another page to my Web site?

For only $75, you can add an additional page to your Web site. Rather than have a lot of information on one page, your site can load faster if the content is separated into diffent Web pages. Also, you visitors may want a message board or some other type of information on your site.

What if I want to give my site a "fresh" look?

It is a good idea to periodically update the look of your site. This keeps peoples interest and enthusiasm in the Web site. Simply changing the masthead or adjusting the colors can give it a fresh look. Contact sales@unionwebdesign.com for more information.
